This event will focus on:

  • Problem gambling among the LGBTQ+ community and why this community be at a higher risk of developing gambling related issues
  • The scope of online gambling in Pennsylvania, and the impact that it’s having in terms of participation and development of problematic behaviors
  • Bringing awareness to the presence and severity of gambling disorder among military service members and veterans and to provide a personal story of addiction.
  • Applying the SAMHSA Strategic Prevention Framework to problem gambling among the general, as well as specific, populations
  • Resources for help in Pennsylvania

Outcomes

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize why the LGBTQ+ community may be at higher risk for addiction
  • Utilize ways to approach working with LGBTQ+ problem gambling clients
  • Understand the scope of online gambling in the state of Pennsylvania, as well as the demographic features of Pennsylvanians that engage in online gambling, and who possess potential problems
  • Have a better understanding of the unique factors that create higher gambling disorder rates for service members and veterans
  • Identify connections between gambling disorder and suicidality among service members and veterans
  • Participant will gain knowledge on the application of the SPF.
  • Participant will gain knowledge on factors contributing to harmful gambling in the Immigrant and Wellness population.

Continuing Education

Social Work

This program is offered for 6.0 hours of social work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work, a Council on Social Work Education-accredited school and, therefore, a PA pre-approved provider of social continuing education. These credit hours satisfy requirements for LSW/LCSW, LPC and LMFT biennial license renewal. For information on social work continuing education call (412) 624-6902.

International Gambling Counselor Certification Board (IGCCB) 

This program has been approved for six (6.0) hours by the IGCCB.

This program has been PCB Approved for six (6.0) hours.

There is no cost for PCB CE’s.
Attendees must attend the entire event – partial CE’s will not be issued.
