Outcomes

At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:

  • Review current research on sports betting, athletes, and problem gambling
  • Understand the risk factors of athletes and problem gambling
  • Learn how to utilize past athletic experience to help develop an effective gambling treatment plan
  • Discuss evidence-informed clinical interventions that can be used with most sports bettors during therapy
  • Understand the scope of online gambling in the state of Pennsylvania, as well as the demographic features of Pennsylvanians that engage in online gambling, and who possess potential problems
  • Understand differences between those that gamble online-exclusively, offline exclusively, and those that gamble via both modalities
  • Describe financial counseling and what financial counselors do, compared to other financial and legal professionals who offer advice to individuals
  • Describe how financial counseling can be applied to help clients experiencing problems with gambling overcome financial challenges during recovery
  • Describe resources and professionals who are available to help clients and how to engage with them

This program is offered for 6.0 hours of social work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work, a Council on Social Work Education-accredited school and, therefore, a PA pre-approved provider of social continuing education. This program has been approved for six (6.0) hours by the IGCCB.
