Problem Gambling Training:
Harm Reduction Across the Gambling Continuum

The National Harm Reduction Coalition defines harm reduction as “a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences” Harm reduction is not a tool to use when nothing else works or to wait until the problem is at its worst. Harm Reduction strategies can engage individuals in working towards what health in their relationship with gambling looks like for them. Harm reduction must be viewed as a tool throughout the continuum of gambling behaviors whether not gambling, whether gambling socially, at-risk of problems or gambling use disorder harm reduction is an effective tool to reduce negative impacts of gambling on the lives of those who gamble and those around them. We will discuss and identify what is harm reduction, and what it is not. We will review how to apply techniques and concepts of harm reduction across the continuum of gambling and how to engage individuals to actively participate in developing healthy skills for gambling.
