Problem Gambling & Suicide

Problem gambling is often referred to as the ‘Hidden Addiction’, because unlike other disorders, like substance related disorders, there are very few physical signs of a problem being present. While this may be the case, the internal struggle that often accompanies a gambling problem can be devastating.

In 2020, suicide was among the top 9 leading causes of death for people ages 10-64, and the second leading cause of death for people ages 25-34. While this statistic is startling, what is even more eye opening is the fact that research suggests that as many as 20% of individuals struggling with a significant gambling problem have attempted suicide at some point in their life.

This training will address problem gambling and the prevalence of situations that are taking place, warning signs associated with problem gambling, as well as the overlap we see with suicidal ideation and attempt rates.
